JMK was born in Toronto, educated at Montessori, Bialik and Bishop Strachan schools. She spent a year in France and several months in Italy developing her French and Italian. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College and a Masters in Science in Social Work from Columbia University where she was awarded a Merit Scholarship. She has written one novel entitled "Follow Me Now". Currently, Ms Kaplan has a private psychotherapy practice in Toronto, as she had previously in New York City for 20 years. Her practice focuses on trauma recovery, addiction and love with an interest in dream analysis. She has 2 children, Lucius 20 and Bayla,10.
